A few years ago, Lauren and I got into cryptic crosswords. They took a little getting used to, but I now find them more interesting than regular crosswords. However, since the New York Times stopped publishing their Cru Cryptics, we stopped our cryptic endeavors.
That all changed when we were in Pondicherry. Over breakfast, our hotel gave us a morning paper, The Hindu, to read. And there, after the article about the nanny sedating and renting out the baby in her care to beggars for Rs100/day, was “The Hindu Crossword”. Turns out that on weekends, The Hindu includes a cryptic crossword with some South Asian flavor. The one we got in Pondicherry kept us busy all weekend, and I discovered that you can also access them online here. They’ll certainly keep me out of trouble for awhile!
